The Bernie Algorithm
With the thousand or so Presidential candidates in the Republican Party it's easy to forget there's also a Democratic Party fight underway, or at least a skirmish.
The national media has always ignored Senator Bernie Sanders. They just didn't want to be bothered with the self identified independent socialist, who caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate. To a large degree they're still trying to ignore him because he doesn't fit the narrative they've already written. But now they can't ignore him any longer. With thousands of people lining up to attend his rallies he has become the hottest thing on the campaign trail.
Walk with me now deep into the weeds, so deep even Tolkien himself would be impressed. If every American who was qualified to vote, registered and then actually voted and if they voted what was in their best overall interest, not the least of which is economics, health and education, then Bernie Sanders would be the next President of the United States. We have to leave the weeds now, sorry.
Bernie will not be the next President of the United States nor will he be the nominee of the Democratic Party. Why you ask? That's a good question, my readers really are the best. In spite of the Republican spin machine portraying it's opposition as a party of far left flower children it is in fact a centrist party with a bit of leaning to the right. I say two-thirds of it's voters fall in to that category with the other third comprised of liberals and others.
Does that mean Bernie is having no impact? Far from it and whether or not the party and specifically Hillary Clinton realize it or not they need Bernie. The masses of people gathering to him is not a fluke. He is speaking truth about economic disparity and America's new Robber Baron Age. We criticize the oligarchy regime of Russia but we have our own uniquely American style of oligarchy. Many people are waking up to this and want to make changes. Bernie Sanders offers hope of fighting this new reality. He can say bluntly what Clinton and others cannot and will not. They get to ride Sanders wave of enthusiasm while incorporating his less inflammatory language into their own campaigns while remaining centrist in their overall demeanor. Again it is Clinton who has the most to gain in this scenario.
It is not that Clinton is inevitable, it is that history is. The United States is ready for it's first woman President but it has to be someone with the breadth of experience to hit the ground running. No matter what her detractors say about her, Hillary Clinton is that woman and she is uniquely qualified to take on the task. She can take what Sanders is doing and use it to her advantage. She can promise to take on the great issues of disparity while appealing to a spirit of compromise with the right. Again her detractors must face the fact that during her Senate years and beyond she has forged relationships across the aisle.
The Democratic Race, barring some unknown cosmic event, is between Clinton and Sanders. I don't believe that Joe Biden will run, but I've been wrong before, don't tell anyone. Martin O'Malley might develop once he's on a debate stage but I seriously doubt this is his year. Lincoln Chaffee is, well, Lincoln Chaffee. Jim Webb might run but so far nothing has come from him which would indicate excitement is about to strike.
So we come full circle to Bernie Sanders, the most important person in the Democratic race. He is the key that will unlock the total success of Clinton.
The Bernie Algorithm.
