All corners of the media are in overdrive talking about Ted Cruz and how he won Iowa, suggesting it will be studied for years to come. Really? I understand that the media must draw things out, repeat, loop, repeat, loop and look for hidden meaning because no one will watch, listen or read their product without it. Let me pause here cause I ain't no hypocrite, I would gladly take a payday engaging in that activity. As a blogger I could easily skip this subject but no, like a pig in  mud I shall take a wallow. Cruz won Iowa because of two basic strategies, organization and Jesus Christ. When he launched his campaign he brought 500 volunteers up from Texas to begin laying the groundwork in Iowa. He visited all 99 counties and no venue was too small. He constantly touted his conservative Christian evangelical values. He proudly stated over and over, I'm your guy and Jesus wants this. Listen to his stump speeches repeatedly, if you can stomach them, and you will catch the flow and...

You know how when you're at the supermarket you see that mass produced coffee cake, it looks good so against your better judgment you buy it. Afterwards you feel vaguely unsatisfied, even a bit queasy. Kind of like the Iowa Caucuses. Thankfully it's behind us now but I wonder how many Iowans have buyer's remorse this morning? The good news is I pretty much nailed it on the outcome, so good for me. This is clear evidence of my political brilliance. The Republican Party is officially scared of Donald Trump but they shouldn't be. Sure, if he gets the nomination they will once again lose the White House but that might actually be what needs to happen to reshape the party into a modern forward thinking ideology that can actually have appeal. Donald Trump is an anathema. Any other person would have already been driven out of the race for their frequent insults and fact challenged speeches. Fortunately for Trump his supporters don't care about his behavior, in fact it's why they're following him. They want his outrageousness. They want to hear his vitriolic assaults on those he dislikes and to listen to him bash entire cultures and nationalities. They are angry and  letting Trump be their blowhorn. The big question is will they actually vote for him when the caucuses and primaries begin? What does he actually stand for? Advancing the Trump name is the answer. Ben Carson has surged ahead of Donald Trump in Iowa in a recent round of polls. Huckabee, Santorum, Bachmann and Cain all surged in Iowa. Santorum and Huckabee won, remember the triumphant presidencies of all of those people? Carson will probably be in the top three on the day of the Iowa Caucuses, he might even win it but he'll win nothing else. Carson is constitutionally qualified to run for President but he is not fit to serve in the position. He is willfully ignorant and displays it every time he opens his mouth. He is also not refreshingly honest as some commentators have stumbled to find polite words to describe some of his answers. This was particularly notable when he was recently asked as President what preparations he would be taking to address the coming hurricanes? His answer was "I don't know."
