Progressive means moving forward;advancing, proceeding gradually or step by step;striving for or favoring progress or reform esp. social, political, educational, or religious. There you have it, they are both progressive. The use of the word progressive in politics goes back a long way. In 1912 under the leadership of Republican Theodore Roosevelt a political party called the Progressive Party was launched. Another Progressive Party was formed in 1924 by Robert M. LaFollette.
