The United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in a campaign known as Brexit. Problem is, this might lead to a disunited kingdom. Scotland voted 2 to 1 to remain in the E.U. This may be the moment that finally leads to full independence for the Scots. Northern Ireland also voted to remain and it's leadership immediately began voicing concern and suggesting unification with the Republic of Ireland. That suggestion brought a swift no from both the Republic and Downing Street but you never know. Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned and intends to be gone by October. Cameron had promised to hold the referendum to quiet the fringe of his own party and other conservative forces such as the Ukip Party and it's leader Nigel Farage. The National Review has brought together multiple conservative writers in an issue of Bill Buckley's magazine to launch a mega attack on Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. The crux being that they believe he is not a conservative. Says who? Them? Who gets to determine what someone's political ideology is at any given time. By today's standards adhered to by the extreme forces which are dominant in the so called conservative movement would reject many of that modern movements iconic figures including Bill Buckley. When Buckley changed his mind on the Iraq War and came out against it he was villified by those strident voices. President Obama announced this past week that we would be sending 500 military "advisors" to Iraq to assist Sunni factions directly. This is part of our unclear strategy to deal with ISIS. I promise this is not a commentary about how we should never have fought the Iraq War to begin with. (See how I worked that in, clever me.) Last year former Secretary of Defense Bob Gates was on the lecture circuit pushing his autobiography. Gates has been widely respected on both sides of the aisle, serving at Defense under both Bush and Obama. During the book tour he stated that Joe Biden was wrong about most things involving foreign affairs. In particular Gates says he was wrong when he urged that Iraq be divided into three autonomous regions with a  weakened federal government to represent Iraq on the global stage and to equitably distribute the oil wealth.
