Calling All Iowans

It's finally here, the greatest spectacle in American politics begins tomorrow. The Iowa Caucuses will officially start the real battle for the Presidency. For the first time the voters true voices will be heard. Who will the victors be?

On November 30, 2015 I posted my predictions. So you don't have to search for them, for the Republicans it was 1. Cruz 2. Carson and 3. Trump. At the time I felt pretty confident about that lineup but things change quickly in politics and Carson has fallen dramatically, so much so he may not even be in the top three. Ted Cruz has the best ground organization in Iowa of all the Republicans. At the start of his campaign he brought in 500 volunteers from Texas. He leased dorms at an abandoned college to house them. I still believe he has the strength to finish strong but he may very well be at number two with Donald Trump taking the prize. I'm not convinced that Rubio is the rising candidate that so many pundits talk about.

For the Democrats I predicted 1. Clinton 2. Sanders 3. O'Malley. Martin O'Malley is fortunate because he will definitely finish in third place, unfortunately there will be no one below him and his campaign will be finished. Clinton and Sanders are in a dead heat and if a larger number than usual comes out to caucus Bernie Sanders will win it. If he does the Clinton campaign will be in turmoil. If the turnout is low to average, Clinton will win which she really needs. Sanders doesn't have to win to continue a strong path toward the nomination.

New Hampshire votes on February 9 so mark your calendars, get your popcorn and enjoy the show.

The production was "Sacrifice" , an original and first play from co-writers Marcus May and Caleb Nunez. Both have experience in short films and a life long love of the arts. The play is about racial tension between two families, one black and one Latino. Leading the Latino family is Ernesto, a building super who's wife was killed many years earlier by a young black male. Ernesto, engagingly played by Joe Vanegas, cannot let go of this life altering experience and as a result has a distrust of African Americans and a prejudice born of pain. His daughter Ana, played by Brittany Crone, views the world through a different lens, one of tolerance and acceptance of diversity. She tries to soften her father's views but to no avail. The Day After

Well, how you doing today. Feeling nauseous? Feeling giddy with joy? Feeling like the Republic is now under the control of a Sith Lord? Feeling like the saviour of the nation has arrived? I guess it all depends on where you stand. I said in this little forum from the very beginning that Donald Trump could get the Republican nomination and go on to win the Presidency. I was hopeful that he wouldn't but never delusional that he couldn't. Forget about the polls which got it wrong and forget about the professional pundits who got it wrong and are still getting it wrong in their analysis. Trump won in the Electoral College because of rural America turning out in large numbers. As I write this Hillary Clinton still has over 200,000 more votes than Donald Trump and that number will likely grow by the time the count is complete.
