Sanders vs. Trump: The Myth

For months the press and naturally Bernie Sanders have cited polls showing that Sanders would defeat Trump by double digits.

I do not believe these polls. Exactly how those polls were conducted and phrased is not known but let's explore some crucial facts. Until he ran for the Democratic nomination Bernie Sanders was not a nationally known figure. He has been a political figure in Vermont for thirty years but he has never faced a national vetting process. In short he has never faced the nasty in depth opposition research that goes in to a Presidential campaign and he still hasn't.

Bernie Sanders has spent his entire political career as an Independent and self described democratic socialist. The overwhelming majority of this country has no idea what that is and the only word they hear is socialist and in their minds it's the same as communist and both words are a non starter in the United States.

Donald Trump would waste no time in defining Sanders daily as a commie that wants to destroy the values that built America into the greatest nation on earth. He would paint him as a man wanting to take money from one group of people and give it to another and destroy individualism and personal achievement.

Hillary Clinton, no matter what Trump is saying, has been vetted. She has run the gauntlet as First Lady, two term U.S. Senator, Presidential candidate and Secretary of State. She has the broad knowledge and experience necessary to sit in the Oval Office. If Trump is to be defeated the best chance is with her as the Democratic Candidate and one certainly hopes with Bill Clinton's political brain fully unleashed behind the scenes.

We often have heard the phrase "this is the most important election of our lifetime" and it's generally hyperbole. All elections are important and they have consequences but this year quite literally is one of the most important elections in many decades.

Getting it wrong this time could result in dire consequences.
