Trump and Punishment

A Dostoevsky masterpiece it is not. You have no doubt heard about Donald Trump's latest controversy, there are so many. This one is about abortion. Hearing about it and watching the entire exchange are two different things. Watch the whole thing, not just the snippet on a loop. It took place in a town hall setting hosted by Chris Matthews on MSNBC. Matthews laid a gigantic turd at Trump's feet and instead of stepping over it he stepped right in it. Trump is Pro Life with certain exceptions. So Matthews asks the question, should a woman be punished for having an abortion. Let's stop right there and acknowledge reality, abortion is legal. A nimble and skilled politician should have said given the fact it is the law of the land the question is moot. I suppose if you have a diarrhea mouth you could add if Congress ever outlaws it I'll get back to you with an answer, then sit stone faced until Matthews wore himself out. Trump didn't do that. You can see in his face he ...

It's Been Heard

Rumors are in the air that President Barack Obama is quietly saying behind the scenes that it's time for Bernie Sanders to get out of the race and support Hillary Clinton. As I write this Sanders just beat Clinton in Alaska and Washington. I have no doubt that these rumors are true, so instead of remaining in the dark I will publicly say to President Obama, it's time for you to shit or get off the pot! Obama has all but come out and formally endorsed Hillary Clinton. He has hinted and insinuated it but even with this simple act he's too cool for school. He may endorse her but only after he's sure there is no way Sanders could pull an upset. He will absolutely campaign for her if she is the nominee because he needs her but no matter what he says, deep down he thinks Bill and Hillary Clinton have an odd odor, something similar to a garlic fart. There are memories of something once enjoyed but now there are unpleasant lingering after effects. Obama's opinions on Sand...

Suffragatio

Suffragatio is latin for voting. To be fair it is one of five possibilities, the first being tribus, which is not bad but not naughty like suffragatio and let's be honest isn't this years election making you feel a little dirty? Long lines and insuffient numbers of polling places in Arizona has led to some accusations of voter suppression, mostly out of stupidity and inefficiency. But the larger question is do we have a deliberate agenda in this country of trying to dissuade citizens from voting? The answer is yes but it's subtle. It is certainly not as bad as it was under our highly vaunted founding fathers and the younger generations which followed. Democracy? Sure, within certain guidelines. Like all that time you had to be white male protestant landowners or have a specific amount of money to your name. History's a bitch when you actually focus on it and the great men of it lose their luster and so they should. We've come a long way baby but some would like ...

Slow Weekend...

Not much going on in politics. What's that? What about all the violence at Trump's rallies? Well what about it? From the moment Donald Trump held his first rally he has set a tone that encourages roughing up protesters. All politicians get protested, it's happening during this Presidential cycle at every candidate's rallies on both sides. But only Donald Trump has yelled from day one " get 'em outa here!" He has even had members of the press removed. At first it was done by his private security but now he has Secret Service protection and that changes everything. Why you ask does it change things? Because in 2012 a law was passed that says any political rally which requires the presence of Secret Service details will not allow protesting inside the rally. Protesters must remain outside and in a designated area. Violators of this law could face up to one year in jail. Most politicians are immune to protesters and very good at dismissing them. If protester...

Still Crazy

Ben Carson dropped out of the Presidential race a short time ago. I asked who would take his title of batshit crazy. I intended to kindly allow him to retire and pass the mantle on, not so anymore. He is and shall remain batshit crazy. He just endorsed Donald Trump. He is clearly positioning himself for a cabinet post. Trump says Carson will become an advisor particularly on education, so basically the end of education in America. Carson, who commissioned an oil painting of himself with Jesus Christ and continuously wraps himself in faith while simultaneously advocating policies which are the antithesis of the man in his painting, has now demonstrated the true nature of his ambition. He is driven by an intolerance and ignorance as profound as any jihadist. There is nothing wrong with ambition. Without it we couldn't get out of bed but Carson's false self portrait as a humble servant called by the masses to serve them is delusional. Can you imagine a man of Trump's calib...

Choo Choo China

Here we go. China's C.R.R.C. Corporation announced today that it has landed a 1.3 billion dollar contract to build rail cars for the Chicago Transit Authority. How long do you think it will take Donald Trump to add this to his stump speech? For that matter it's also perfect fodder for Bernie Sanders. I don't know much about building trains but I do know that like most of our infrastructure the overall freight system is in decay. The cars in question for this contract are for moving people in one of our few major metropolitan cities that actually has genuine public transportation. One wonders how the people of Chicago feel about this? Thus far it's just a blurb of a story but I bet it won't remain that way for long. Hillary Clinton has casually mentioned high speed rail from time to time and it is certainly long past the time for the United States to catch up with the rest of the world. It has always been a heavy lift legislatively because of strong opposition fro...

No Salute

I am not a Trumpite, in case you haven't figured that out, but the media needs to focus on facts and stop trafficking in lies and innuendo. Also stop putting me in the position of defending people I don't want to. At a recent rally Donald Trump asked the supporters gathered there to raise their hands and swear to vote for him. All politicians ask people to promise to vote for them. The raising of the hands is unusual but it's Trump. The supporters did it, most half heartedly. The spin on various social media platforms has been to compare it to the heil Hitler salute. The press then ran with the story. It is absolute nonsense. It was not a salute, it was people raising their hands the same way hands are raised everyday in this country for a variety of reasons. Donald Trump is not Adolph Hitler. It is wrong for right-wing nutbags to refer to President Obama as Hitler and it's wrong to suggest it of Trump. Let's remember Hitler wrote a book from his prison cell which ...

Missing the Point

I have not addressed this topic because it is so disgusting and infuriating but after watching an interview with Presidential candidate John Kasich this morning, I was left speechless at his comments. The issue is Flint, Michigan and Kasich's comment was a criticism of Hillary Clinton saying Governor Rick Snyder should resign. Kasich claimed Clinton's call was outrageous. He was then quite dismissive of the situation and saying casually that there is Federal money available to help with clean water. It is Kasich's comment which is outrageous. Flint, Michigan doesn't have a simple water problem. Governor Snyder has used emergency powers to take over certain towns and cities in Michigan which are in desparate financial condition. He has suspended local governments powers and appointed a lone dictator answerable only to him, to make decisions for entire communities. The dictator in Flint had the brilliant idea to switch their water supply from Lake Huron, which is viewe...

Supreme Consideration

As everyone knows (I'm being generous) there is a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court because of the death of Antonin Scalia. There is a lot discord being sown as to what should happen but it is quite simple, we have a Constitution which guides. President Obama must nominate someone to fill this vacancy because it is his legally charged responsibility to do so. Equally the U.S. Senate must fulfill their Constitutional duty, which is to provide advice and consent. The Senate under a Republican Majority is advising the President not to make a nomination. That advice is incorrect, however, they are under no Constitutional directive to hold hearings or move forward on a nomination if they choose not to. I believe they would be making a mistake not to but on the other hand I am not the Majority Leader of the Senate. Rancor and personal attacks on either side of the aisle is neither helpful nor warranted. If the decision of the Majority is to stay the course they have indicated then so b...

Tinnitus...

No this post is not about a Roman General. It is about the ringing, or in my case the high pitch noise, in both of my ears. This sound is constant twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. It began nearly four years ago and is to put it mildly driving me to the brink of insanity. Okay, in all fairness some would say I was on that path long before the tinnitus. Recently I was given the final medical analysis, for now and probably my lifetime, that I'm just going to have to learn to live with it. Many people suffer from the problem, some in one ear, others in both. In spite of all the things you can read on the internet and you should be very cautious on what you get drawn into, here is the no red tape, no bullshit truth about tinnitus. Medical science doesn't know what causes it and there is no cure or treatment for the disease. There are tactics to combat it and those are listening to music, watching T.V. or even using noise cancelling earphones ( don't drive with these...

A Dose of Reality

Mitt Romney gave his stop Trump speech yesterday and the earth is still turning today. Surprisingly Trump's response was relatively subdued, by Trump standards. Probably because he recognizes that Romney has no credibility with most Americans. There is no point in analyzing last night's Republican Debate because it was the same as the last one. Nothing new is being learned and you should skip them unless you enjoy reality T.V. Cruz and Rubio are spinning their wheels because they are trying to out Trump Trump, it's not going to work. John Kasich is trying to gain momentum by stressing his credentials and long history of political success but it is not penetrating the fog of frustration that Trump is so deftly exploiting. One of Trump's regular themes is our trade deficits and the points are valid. He says he loves the Chinese and Mexican people but their leaders are smarter than ours. He now also mentions Vietnam but doesn't indicate a fondness. Maybe he does li...

Mittens Speaks

Mitt Romney delivered a scathing indictment of why Donald Trump should be rejected by Republicans. He did this from the safety of Salt Lake City surrounded by a friendly audience. Well done Mitt, you just propelled Donald Trump's ascendancy to the nomination exponentially. Romney is not the person to deliver this rebuke. As much as I don't think Trump would be a good President my opinion of Romney is even less. He accused Trump of being a phony, if that's true then Romney himself is a phony on steroids. He has occupied all positions on all subjects including implementing Romney Care in Massachusetts which is identical to the so called Obamacare which he viciously attacked in 2012. In fact the architects of that Massachusetts plan were brought to Washington to work on President Obama's healthcare plan. Romney has been pro choice then pro life depending on the political race he is in. He became severely conservative for 2012. He believes with all his heart that 47% of A...

Ben There

This will be brief but since it's breaking news and I'm cutting edge or is it living on the edge? Either way, Ben Carson has just released a statement that he will not be on the stage for the upcoming FOX News Republican debate and that based on the outcome of Super Tuesday he doesn't see a path forward for his candidacy. Carson will be speaking at CPAC on Friday where he will formally end his campaign for the Presidency and talk about his future plans for saving America. I'm not one to say I told you so, but I did, consistently. Will this have an impact on the race? Not really. There is no way to predict where his small number of voters will go. Some will probably sit it out, the others will likely split between the remaining candidates with very little help to any of them. With his departure we will have to see who inherits the highly coveted title of batshit crazy. Did you see where Senator Lindsay Graham said his party was going batshit crazy? I do declare that...

A Sea of Denial

Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Super Tuesday. But if you're a Republican  Presidential candidate it was like a giant bird in the form of a Trump and it shit all over you. Oh, not according to the candidates themselves or the establishments ( whoever they really are) consulting class. Trump creamed his opponents, period. Ted Cruz won his home state of Texas but Trump was a strong second, Cruz did not sweep it at above 50% and he should have. Cruz squeaked a win in Oklahoma and the Alaska Caucus, so at least he won something. Marco Rubio has had no wins but consistently delivers victory speeches after every race, he has turned nothing around in his campaign. Late last night Rubio won the Minnesota Caucus, so hey, good job Marco. Now he has all his eggs in the Florida basket, that was Rudy Giuliani's strategy in 2008, it failed. True, Rubio is a Senator from Florida but he is not exactly popular right now, in fact Trump is currently 20 points...

Berning Embers

The motto is "Feel the Bern" and no one can deny that Bernie Sanders has turned the Democratic Presidential race upside down. He draws the crowds of a rock star and those supporters combined with a huge number that will never attend a rally are keeping him flush with cash through small donations. No pundit or consultant would have predicted the phenomenon of Bernie Sanders a year ago. Virtually all dismissed his campaign as the lark of a cranky democratic socialist. All that is except the man who would become Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, Robbie Mook. He warned Clinton and company that Sanders would be a formidable and aggressive opponent. He was right. Fortunately for Clinton, Sanders is unwilling to completely eviscerate her on her biggest vulnerabilities. He wants to keep it on the issues, which speaks well of him. In spite of what the Clinton campaign has said, he has never gone negative. We are now in critical territory. They basically tied in Iowa, which by ...
